Down Alternative Winter Coats for Men & Women

Who’s ready for some extra warm and cozy down alternative winter coats this season? As a native Minnesotan and now New Yorker, I know a thing or two about cold winter nights. And I also know a thing or two about staying warm during those cold winter nights. Down feathers have been the standard in winter coats for ages, but nowadays there are kinder alternatives for staying toasty warm all winter long.

Down feathers are the soft little feathers that keep ducks and geese warm so that they can survive outside day in and day out during the winter. Somewhere in fashion history, it seemed like a good and fair idea to steal animals’ natural source of warmth right off their bodies, so that we could stay warm too. But today there are so many other materials and fabrics that can be used to keep us warm all winter long, without harming animals.

In my opinion, it’s pretty simple: f*$% down. And f*$% fur and leather while we’re at it. Let animals live and stay warm on their own. And we can keep ourselves warm with our abundance of nice and cozy non-animal materials. 😉

Since this winter coat post has been so highly requested from guys and girls alike, I’ve put together a roundup of 60+ of my favorite down alternative winter coats for both men and women.
