On the Menu this Week

Aug 30, 2015Good morning everyone! It’s been an absolutely beautiful week here in NYC. As usual I’ve got some delicious plant-based food inspiration for you, but in addition to that at the end of this post I’ve got a little treat for you that actually has nothing to do with food! I hope it brightens your morning like it brightened my day yesterday. 🙂 But first, to the food…

Engine 2 cerealThis Engine 2 cereal is pretty much the healthiest cereal out there. It has 40 grams of whole grains, 7 grams of fiber and 7 grams of protein in each serving. It’s made up of old-fashioned rolled oats, shredded wheat, whole grain barley, whole grain millet, sprouted whole lentils, ground flax, freeze-dried bananas and walnuts, among other whole grains. It is not sweetened like regular cereal, which is great, but because of that it takes a little time for our taste buds to get used to its natural flavor. I load it with raisins and/or fruit to sweeten it up and then I love it. This is the kind of cereal that can actually tide you over until lunch. I pick mine up at Whole Foods and eat it with almond milk.

FalafelDid you know falafel is vegan? So is the tahini that goes on top of it. This delicious falafel sandwich is from Nish Nush in Tribeca.

SweetgreenThis salad looks like a mess because I shook it up but it was so good! It was the make-your-own salad from Sweetgreen. I ordered a very random mix of ingredients and hoped it would end up tasting good…which it did! I ordered organic mesclun greens, roasted sweet potatoes, avocado, peaches and baked falafel all in a spicy cashew dressing.

Van LeeuwenI happened upon the Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream truck one evening and had to stop for a cone. This is their vegan dark chocolate and vegan pistachio. You can find their truck locations updated each day on twitter, here.

And finally for that treat I promised…there’s a lot more to love here in NYC than just the amazing plant-based foods! I recorded this yesterday in the West Village. It made me so happy so I thought you guys might like it too! The band’s name is Acapella Soul and you can find them on street corners in NYC any given day.

xo,

Tedi
